  • Morning & Evening

The word “hitherto” seems like a hand pointing in the direction of the past. Twenty years or seventy, and yet, “hitherto the Lord hath helped!” Through poverty, through wealth, through sickness, through health, at home, abroad, on the land, on the sea, in honour, in dishonour, in perplexity, in joy, in trial, in triumph, in…

  • CONTINUOUS CONVERSION

My Utmost For His Highest Except ye be converted, and become as little children.… Matthew 18:3. These words of Our Lord are true of our initial conversion, but we have to be continuously converted all the days of our lives, continually to turn to God as children. If we trust to our wits instead of…

  • CHRIST RETURNETH!

Amazing Grace H. L. Turner, 19th century I will come again, and receive you unto Myself. (John 14:3 KJV) The promise of Christ’s return has been a source of much comfort to God’s people through the centuries. However, it has also caused disagreement and even some divisions within the church. Not all Bible students and…

  • Morning & Evening

When the Lord in mercy passed by and saw us in our blood, he first of all said, “Live”; and this he did first, because life is one of the absolutely essential things in spiritual matters, and until it be bestowed we are incapable of partaking in the things of the kingdom. Now the life…

  • WHERE THE BATTLE’S LOST AND WON

My Utmost For His Highest If thou wilt return, O Israel, saith the Lord.… Jeremiah 4:1. The battle is lost or won in the secret places of the will before God, never first in the external world. The Spirit of God apprehends me and I am obliged to get alone with God and fight the…

  • LO! HE COMES WITH CLOUDS DESCENDING

Amazing Grace Charles Wesley, 1707–1788 Look, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him, and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of Him. So shall it be! Amen. (Revelation 1:7) When Jesus made His first entrance to earth, He was seen by only…

  • Morning & Evening

The rush is spongy and hollow, and even so is a hypocrite; there is no substance or stability in him. It is shaken to and fro in every wind just as formalists yield to every influence; for this reason the rush is not broken by the tempest, neither are hypocrites troubled with persecution. I would…

  • PLACED IN THE LIGHT

My Utmost For His Highest If we walk in the light, as He is in the light, … the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin. 1 John 1:7. To mistake conscious freedom from sin for deliverance from sin by the Atonement is a great error. No man knows what sin…

  • GO TELL IT ON THE MOUNTAIN

Amazing Grace Stanzas by John W. Work, 1871–1925 You who bring good tidings to Zion, go up on a high mountain. You who bring good tidings to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with a shout, lift it up, do not be afraid; say to the towns of Judah, “Here is your God!” (Isaiah 40:9) For…

  • Morning & Evening

Jesus is the federal head of his elect. As in Adam, every heir of flesh and blood has a personal interest, because he is the covenant head and representative of the race as considered under the law of works; so under the law of grace, every redeemed soul is one with the Lord from heaven,…
