  • DIVINE REASONINGS OF FAITH

My Utmost For His Highest But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33. Immediately we look at these words of Jesus, we find them the most revolutionary statement human ears ever listened to. “Seek ye first the kingdom of God.” We…

  • BREATHE ON ME BREATH OF GOD

Amazing Grace Edwin Hatch, 1835–1889 As the Father has sent Me, I am sending you. And with that He breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” (John 20:21, 22) The good news of the gospel relates not only to what Christ once did—His death, resurrection, ascension—but to what He presently offers: Forgiveness of…

  • MORNING & EVENING

If:—then, this is not a matter to be taken for granted concerning every one of the human race. “If:”—then there is a possibility and a probability that some may not have tasted that the Lord is gracious. “If:”—then this is not a general but a special mercy; and it is needful to enquire whether we…

  • THE REALM OF THE REAL

My Utmost For His Highest In your patience possess ye your souls. Luke 21:19. When a man is born again, there is not the same robustness in his thinking or reasoning for a time as formerly. We have to make an expression of the new life, to form the mind of Christ. “Acquire your soul…

  • MORNING & EVENING

When we give our hearts with our alms, we give well, but we must often plead to a failure in this respect. Not so our Master and our Lord. His favours are always performed with the love of his heart. He does not send to us the cold meat and the broken pieces from the…

  • OUT OF THE WRECK I RISE

My Utmost For His Highest Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Romans 8:35. God does not keep a man immune from trouble; He says—“I will be with him in trouble.” It does not matter what actual troubles in the most extreme form get hold of a man’s life, not one of them…

  • GRACIOUS SPIRIT, DWELL WITH ME

Amazing Grace Thomas T. Lynch, 1818–1871 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you … and I will put My Spirit in you and move you to follow My decrees. (Ezekiel 36:26, 27) An awareness and knowledge of the Holy Spirit’s ministries is most important for every believer. Note…

  • MORNING & EVENING

Upstarts frequently usurp the highest places, while the truly great pine in obscurity. This is a riddle in providence whose solution will one day gladden the hearts of the upright; but it is so common a fact, that none of us should murmur if it should fall to our own lot. When our Lord was…

  • CAREFUL UNREASONABLENESS

My Utmost For His Highest Behold the fowls of the air … consider the lilies of the field. Matthew 6:26, 28. Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow, they simply are! Think of the sea, the air, the sun, the stars and the moon—all these are, and what a ministration they exert. So…

  • SPIRIT OF GOD, DESCEND UPON MY HEART

Amazing Grace George Croly, 1780–1860 Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord Almighty. (Zechariah 4:6) Although it is always thrilling at Christmas to recall the events of our Savior’s birth, or at Easter to celebrate His triumph over death, we must not forget Ascension or Pentecost. If Christ had…
